Jesus is teaching the disciples a life lesson by comparing the left-overs of two miracle feedings, the feeding of the five and four thousand respectively.
In the first he asks, " how many baskets did you pick up?" "Twelve," they answered. In the latter He asks the same question and they answered, "seven."
In the feeding of the five thousand they started with five loafs of bread. In the feeding of the four thousand they started with seven. The more they started with the less they had left over.
In our way of thinking we are more comfortable when we have more but such isn't the case in the Kingdom. Jesus is teaching them that with Him, they "have" more than enough.
In times of uncertainty it is good to know that the Lord Jesus doesn't need a whole lot to end up with a great supply of left-overs. Which reminds me of another saying of Jesus. "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. -Matt 6:34
God gives grace for today. Tomorrow will have grace abundantly given. But it will only come tomorrow. So, living in the "now" positions us for tomorrow.
Practice all the wisdom and discernment you have today but fret not over tomorrow. With little or much our trust is in Him.
With Him we will have all we need and some left over to help others around us. Click here to comment.
Pastor Greg
Every morning when I have my prayer time I always do as the word of God says and "cry out for wisdom" for my family and myself. Sunday morning I was moved by the Spirit of God to help a friend with a small gift of money. I did and this person told me, "do you want to hear something neat"? I gave the last dollar I had in my pocket this morning to a lady that had two little children and nothing to eat. Well...I know you should not let your right hand know what your left hand is doing but...what a uplift knowing that I had done what my Father had asked of me. The results... we own our business and I have obeyed the word as He has said. Many of you know stores are closing up and some people are doing no business but, the Lord has been so good to us. We are blessed and highly favored, business is GOOD!! Even if it is a $50. day, $7000. or a big fat goose egg day (and there has not been many of those)!! We praise Him and give Him all the glory because "LITTLE IS MUCH WHEN GOD IS IN IT"!!
