2 Samuel 22:31 (NKJV)
31 As for God, His way is perfect;
The word of the LORD is proven;
He is a shield to all who trust in Him.
I was interested in an article in Sunday’s Parade section of the Daily Reflector. It was one of those titles that was meant to grab your attention and it worked on me. "10 Ways to Get Rich, Warren Buffett’s Secrets That Can Work For You," the headline read. Not many will argue with Mr. Buffett’s success in building his assets. I was interested in the common sense each of his secrets represented.
It got me thinking. If the article truly represents ‘the word’ Mr. Buffett lives by, they represent self imposed boundaries that guide and limit his personal choices.
I have had the privilege of reading similar secrets of men who have impacted their culture in significant ways. The interesting thing is they all had established a regiment, if you will, of action and some method of governing their actions. I wonder how many of us have even thought of developing our own secrets of successful living.
What words do you live by?
What restraint do you practice to keep you on a path to accomplish your goals?
Do you have any goals?
What type of goals are they?
Do you want to be rich, famous, well thought of?
Maybe you want to be known for your service and benefit to your generation.
Perhaps it's time we looked at the words we live by and determine:
- if we are truly following them
- if they are working
- if they need changing
- if they are taking us where we want to go
Remember your words are like the rudder of a great ship on the sea; they send your life in a direction on the sea of life. Make sure they are sending you where you want to go.

If we don't have a vision... I know it is always a good practice to have some destiny in mind for the day, week, month, year and so on, for everything you are involved in. My personal life for example, I want to see certain milestones hit as well as my family life. I will hit those marks if I run with the patience the race set before me. It sounds like discipline with a twist! Everyone has their own way of obtaining what they what and it always starts with a goal followed by their thoughts(words) Can I make it, Is it possible, what will others say? That is what makes the story of "The lil' engine that could" so powerful, his own words encouraged him. A vision tagged with discipline, and wah-la, he made the story books!
